Uniform Policy for Mt. Vernon Elementary

Philosophy:
The uniform policy at Mt. Vernon Elementary reflects the mission statement of our
school:
“We will work together in a safe environment to build a foundation for lifelong success through instruction, encouragement and modeling.”

*We believe that having uniforms fosters an atmosphere of acceptance and academic achievement.
General Principles:
Students are to be neat and clean. The Mt. Vernon School emblem or logo is permitted on clothing, but not required. Clothing should fit properly, not being oversized, to allow ease of movement for participation in all activities.
Specifics:
Tops: Collared shirts/blouses or turtlenecks. White, navy blue or hunter green, may be short or long sleeved. No T-shirts. All tops should be tucked in.
Sweaters/Sweatshirts: Solid colored white, navy blue or hunter green sweaters and sweatshirts that are hunter green or navy blue can be worn over a collared shirt, blouse or turtleneck. Hooded sweatshirts, jackets, coats or fleece are not to be worn in classrooms.
Vests: Vests of the sweater variety should be navy blue or hunter green.
Pants, Capris and walking shorts: Waistbands should fit at the waist, not worn at hip level. They must be hemmed, no cutoffs. Pants are to be a simple, straight-leg pant. Shorts are to be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. No bib overalls, coveralls, cargo pants or cargo shorts.
Pants & shorts are navy blue, (no corduroy, knit or denim).
Skirts and jumpers: Must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. Skirts and jumpers are navy blue, (no knit or corduroy). Plaids should contain green and blue.
• Belts: Black, brown, navy blue or white.
• Accessories: Jewelry should be safe for P.E. and recess.
